Surface Design . . .
Lynn's work in surface design is inspired by Asian and Pacific traditions and focuses on traditional resist techniques and hand painting on silk and cotton.
Suspensions - Two arcs of dyed cotton fabric (indigo & fiber reactive dye) based on Japanese shimenawa (sacred rice straw ropes called) and Micronesian mwarmwar (garlands). The fabric "petals" are dyed using a traditional Japanese folding technique called itajime and they are enfolded in plyed cotton cords.
